Wardrobe Malfunction

I just got home from a weekend retreat with the middle school youth group at our church. To say that I am worn out would be an extreme understatement. However, I couldn't stand to look at those deformed pictures of my precious little boy any longer.

At some point last week Luke's diaper leaked a bit, just liquid, thankfully, but still in need of a complete change- this small feat has been very challenging lately as Luke has decided that sitting/laying still is NOT something he is inclined to do. As I was pulling his shirt up over his head I realized that there were a few buttons around the neckline that I hadn't unbuttoned... the rest, well, just watch....

Luke never ceases to amuse us.
I have a longer video but don't have the energy or brainpower to edit it for the blog. This will have to do.

The Result of Boredom

Matt is out with some of his good buddies tonight. Which leaves Luke and I to entertain one another. Normally, this wouldn't be that big a deal but Luke and I have been home by ourselves all day, everyday so far this week. It has been one of those rare weeks where I am caught up on all the household chores, dinners are prepped and ready, homework is done, errands are done.... this is far from normal. (Probably something to do with the fact that Matt had a 3 1/2 day weekend) Anyway, I am getting a bit stir crazy. Dare I say, I am almost bored!

Thus, Luke and I entertained ourselves for awhile tonight by taking pictures with our webcam. enjoy.

Holy nose batman!

Again with the incredibly large schnoz. wow.

What?!? Two of them?
Feels strangely similar to a scene in The Shining.

And just to prove that we can take a somewhat normal picture if we wanted to...

Comfort Items

Luke is now in that stage where he gets attached to things. He tends to have a favorite toy/item that he will carry around the house with him and will keep coming back to throughout the day. These various toys/items will help comfort him if he gets hurt or upset. It is quite adorable really. However, Luke has a quirky-ness when it comes to his comfort items. For some toddlers it is a teddy bear or blankie. For Luke, it's a spoon, a shoe, a spatula (strange infatuation with things beginning with the letter S apparently).... very rarely is it an actual toy. He has this sweet little bear that is oh, so soft and I keep trying to get him attached to that (or any other stuffed animal really) but no luck. The other day he held onto a spoon for the majority of the morning. When I put him down for a nap I realized that he was all snuggled up with this spoon (I wanted to get a picture but didn't press my luck). Just this morning Luke was quite distraught that Matt, who had been holding him, set him down on the floor. Quick thinking Matt grabbed the spatula and handed it to Luke, who immediately settled down. weirdo.

Personality

These past few weeks we have really been able to see more and more of Luke's individual personality developing... oh my word, is that fun!

He has such a fun little personality. We can already tell that he loves making us laugh and does this often - at first without trying but then when he sees that his actions get not only our approval but a chuckle then he's likely to repeat the action over, and over, and over. BUT only when a video camera is not around. Once the camera comes out the fun stops and curiosity about the camera takes over.

A few of the things we've noticed:
* He is always on the move... whether it be walking, crawling, rolling around, 'dancing', bobbing his head, he is almost ALWAYS in motion.
* He loves making noise and can get extremely loud in some cases (like in the grocery store yesterday - not crying but screaming "BaaBaaBaaBaa" literally at the top of his lungs)
* He likes banging on objects, especially objects that make noise (as you will see in the video below)
* He loves, and I mean LOVES, the refrigerator and dish washer. Whenever either of those appliances are open he makes a bee line straight for them, screaming all the way, and throws an absolute fit if we shut the door before he can get there.
*He is good about entertaining himself - playing and talking to himself - which is always entertaining for us as well.
*He can be quite stubborn - seriously protesting and then throwing a tantrum if we take something away from him that he shouldn't have. That said, he is also fairly easily distracted with something else.

There are many, many other things that we've noticed about our little boy, who is growing up WAY too fast. But as I'm typing this, he is no longer eating his breakfast of Cheerios, bananas and grapes but is throwing them on the floor and hiding them in his seat - So, I'm calling it quits for now. Enjoy the pics and video!

Shoe Fetish

Apparently obsessions with shoes are not just for trendy women with too much money to spend on outfitting their feet. For the past two days Luke has dragged my shoe around by the laces. If it isn't my shoe, it is Matt's or his own little bootie that he's playing with or trying to chew on. He may start playing with another toy for awhile but always comes back to the shoes. Silly boy.
